Love Somebody

“Love Somebody” is a catchy American Folk Song that dates back to the 18th century. I thought this would be a great song for our February blog post, since we do have Valentine’s Day coming up. This is a perfect time to share this in our sessions and discuss how we feel about the people who are closest to us like, family, friends, and/or caregivers. I have a few clients who really love to incorporate drawing in my sessions, so I thought this would be a good way to have an open and expressive conversation. I have created a visual aid of a heart, which the client can draw faces and/or names of people they love. The therapist can either sing the song, “Love Somebody” while the client draws to help the drawing along or both the client and therapist can sing it together with the client drawing afterwards. The melody of the song can be found online and I have included the lyrics below. Feel free to change up the lyrics to what you think is most appropriate for your clients. I hope this can facilitate a great moment of expression in your sessions. Happy singing!

“Love Somebody” American Folk Song

Love somebody, yes I do.

Love somebody, yes I do.

Love somebody, yes I do.

Love somebody, but I won’t say who.

Love somebody, yes I do.

Love somebody, yes I do.

Love somebody, yes I do.

Love somebody, and it’s you you you.
