First, And Then, Next, And Last

We certainly hope you were able to enjoy your 4th of July holiday, safely and with lots of music! This month I would like to talk about an element we use in music therapy from time to time. The strategy of implanting visual schedules can really help clients who struggle with either anxiety from not knowing what is coming next or clients who need visual reminders of what the session’s agenda is. This can also help with clients who tend to get distracted. Often times a visual is great because it serves as a physical reminder of what is asked of the client and it is also a marker of time. By using a visual schedule, the client knows exactly what and when the songs will be played and that shows them where they are within the music therapy session timeframe. I created a sample of a visual schedule which can be used in sessions and also created a song to help introduce the concept to clients. We hope this can be helpful in your sessions!
